Parish winter weather policy…

… I wanted to remind you all about our winter weather policy. Basically it is this: if the Wellsboro Area School District is closed, the office and the events scheduled for the date are also canceled or postponed.

However, there are some events at Saint Paul’s that will not be cancelled, ever. Those are:

  • Saturday and Sunday Eucharists;
  • Shrove Tuesday (by nature of the event, you can’t have Shrove Tuesday a week later);
  • Ash Wednesday;
  • The Lenten Series (our parish’s turn in the series);
  • Christmas;
  • Dickens;
  • Such events that cannot be shifted to another time and date.

The reason for this policy is that while we have a number of members who live in town who could make it to the parish at any time– there are a number of us who live out of town, for whom it might represent a hazard to try to attend an event.

Since it is not possible to know who might or might not be coming to an event, it would be impossible to telephone everyone who might show up. So, basing our availability on the School District closings might give us a couple of extra times of respite, but it is something that we can all check.

Of course, you can also contact me directly to ask about a particular event.

This policy has been in effect for many years now, and seems to have served us well. As I noted some years ago, I’d rather reschedule an event than to have any one of us have a mishap. And so, may God bless and keep us, and, as long as they are not manifold, may we enjoy these occasions of respite given to us by the changes and chances of mother nature.
